Tomo and I, we are probably one of the worst parents around.
Nothing gets submitted to the schools on time (and in Japan, there is so much paperwork to submit, be it for the school itself or some mummy groupy thing that lunch quite often). We send our kids to school in the wrong clothes (uniform on plain clothes day and plain clothes on uniform days). We don't pack the right things to put in their school bags. Often, the school has to call us to remind us for something that is overdue or send us a note to say please pack such and such in the schoolbag.
Unfortunately for the boys, they pick up the flak. Kai has been scolded before (in kindie, the poor kid!) and told that it is his duty to check that the items are in his bag.
We are bad in the best of times, we are terrible in the worst of times. Totally shameless too, or so it would seem to the kindie teachers. In our defense, it is tough on us when we are busy. Like these past few weeks where one of us would try to rush home by 11.30pm just to relieve the nanny, and continue working overnight at home.
And the impact of this on our kids? They are growing up to be independent kids!
When I came home unusually early a few days ago and the kids were still awake, Taiga told me that we have to submit his urine sample to school the next day. Of course that was the first I heard of it. Before I could even ask him anymore about it, he was assuring me - don't worry mummy, I have done it already, the vial is on the toilet table.
Huh?
And so it transpired that Kai and Taiga decided to take it into their own hands (literally) to get Taiga's urine sample since mum and dad were never at home. And how did they do it? Working as a team, they hovered over the toilet seat, Taiga pulled down his pants, Kai held the vial with the tiny opening, and Taiga just let it all flow.
Kai had his hand fully peed on but was terribly good-natured about it.
awww!! how sweet :D :D talk about teamwork!
